Information

most of you that follow the blog for awhile know I use this as an update on current litter but I also post good information about everyday topics and issues associated with raising a dog. First, we are finalizing pick times this week. As I hear back from each person I will let the next one know. No rush, it's 3 weeks out but I want to try to get it all worked this week. The pups are doing great and I will do a pup update later today or tomorrow. I want to blog about something else right now. The demands of a puppy. I read through Facebook posts and cringe. I'm a member of the Goldendoodle owners group. It's a great group of people that post pictures and ask questions about doodles. But at least once a day I read a post from a new puppy owner and it starts off like this... I have a puppy that's -- weeks old and we are thinking of getting rid of him/her because it's awful. They are biting. They are potty in house. They are aggressive. Puppies are cute. Just like babies. But they require the same amount of commitment and training as a child. So I'm blogging today to ask each of you to have a plan. When you have kids you have a plan. They go to school. They have sports or activities to keep them busy. What is your plan for puppy? Puppies get bored just like kids. This is when they act out. And toys are not enough to keep them busy. So have a plan. For 15 mins every 2 hours you go outside and play ball. Or you train in the house. This stage will end. It's usually only 6-12 months. But have a plan to get through the toddler months. Over the next couple weeks I will talk about other issues and ideas to help. But remember every dog is different. The same trick may not work and you may have to try something different. I highly recommend a training class or a trainer. Put the time in now to reap the rewards later. The first 6 months are the easiest to train and get them on the right path.
