Brushing and grooming

i wanted to touch base it's been a couple weeks since I posted about the new brush. I wanted to share some knowledge with those that are new to owning a doodle and some friendly reminds for those that need it. First let's start with you can't wait weeks and the night before the grooming appt pick out all the knots. It doesn't work this way. If that's you then just give in and shave. Keep a cute short maintenance free cut and move on. It's not fair to your dog or you. If you want a long haired doodle then be prepared for brushing. First getting wet creates the most amount of knots and matts. Brush before going outside in rain. Next let's talk about brushes. I have always recommended the comb and slicker brush. I was taught by a poodle owner. Doodles are different. So next I tried the furminator advice from a golden owner. Last I listened to another doodle breeder and bought the Chris Christensen brush. This new brush is by far the best one yet. There are no one brush fits all. If you have hair you know what I mean. A brush for this a brush for that. That is unless you are curly like me and it's no brush ever allowed to touch your hair or it turns it's to frizz. Anyway. A first go to daily brush would be the Chris brush. Great daily brush. If you need an undercoat brush then step to the slicker or furminator. To pick out knots use the safari rake. Only use the comb as a final go through to know you have no knots. Do not pick out knots with a comb. Ever!!!! Two reasons I'm writing this because curly got shaved this week. I knew after all those pups we had to do it. She was knotted under chin and legs. She would have looked like a sheep but instead we shaved her all over. Next I just read on fb last night a women complaining about dog bleeding on nose from comb. This should never happen. If your dog I bleeding from brushing call me immediately. We need to figure out what's going on and why. Last I'll talk about a new product I really like. It's called the stuff. Got it off amazon. It's a great spray that leaves dog silky. It's so easy to brush if you spray first. I love it. But be careful any over spray on floor is very slippery. Use a towel under you or do outside.
