11/14/2017 6-1/2 week markthe pups are doing great. Playing with the tunnel and jungle gym. I’ve started clicker training and getting them to sit. They are still small and it’s just starting to work. They are not food motivated yet. Don’t get me wrong they love to eat. But have not grasped treats yet. Another breeder sent me a great article on raw and I want to share with you. I’ve been sick since Saturday with a head cold so I’m a little behind in stuff. I’m hoping to finish the going home tab this week and figure out a way to post the video she shared with me. I’m not sure I can post a video to my blog. Never tried. So I’ll give you guys the info when I figure it out.
11/12/2017 Funny storieswith pups you get so caught up in the what you need to know what’s going on do this do that. I don’t share many of the funny things that happen. But this morning I have a funny story. Yesterday morning I got up and noticed when I went to let the girls out the patio door that there was puppy poo on the rug. Didn’t make sense as I’m really good at cleaning up after they are loose and I didn’t see it at 2am when I let the girls out. I know I’m sleep deprived but how could I miss that. So this morning I let the girls out it was 6am and still pretty dark. I stepped square in a pile of puppy poo. I took a step with other foot and stepped square in a second pile of puppy poo. So 6am I clean everything up. While I’m washing and scrubbing my feet I see pink out! She goes to the door. Now I get it! She is lettting herself out of puppy pen at night and going to the door to poo! Which is great! I can’t fuss her for that. But why and how she learned this is beyond me. And the fact that she goes back in is what’s even more baffling. I’m use to puppies getting loose at this stage. Because mom still needs access I use the window seat. But to go back in?!?! Now that’s unusual. Usually if they get out they lay on outside of pen and sleep. So we will be reconfiguring pen this week. Someone has to be the first to get out. But I just had to laugh when I figured out what she was doing. 2 litters ago purple had this elaborate escape act. She would get on top of the crate and down across stuff. I didn’t figure that one out till I watched her on video at night doing it. She was really good at finding a spot and getting out. It’s been at least 4 litters since I’ve had one scale the puppy pen. Grey could do it in seconds. I love watching their little mind at work. Solving problems and figuring things out. Doodles are truly Street smart. Our German Shepard was intelligent. But does not compare to the doodle. He could learn anything. But doodles figure things out like problem solvers. That’s why I love this breed.
11/11/2017 Updatesim going to spend the afternoon updating the website. Posting the current 6 weeks pics that I posted on fb yesterday. And the weight. And I will post the picks so far. Who is taken and who is available. I also added a going home tab to the website. I will post a list just like I send home with what you need and what I supply. I will also post about raw feeding and kibble. Shots. Ect. I know when you visit I give you all this verbal info. It’s overwhelming on you. And I always forget something. So this tab will help us both. I will post things about training and shots too. So stay tuned and I’ll let you know when I finish. I should have done this long ago. It’s finding the time to do it.
11/10/2017 Pictures to go with the infoi send home a sheet with what I supply and what you need. So use this post as a picture reference if needed.
Water fountain 360 stainless. They make lots of models. I’ve had this same one for 12 years. They sell replacement parts and filters on amazon. It never wears out. It’s been running every day for 12 years. And the pump still works. I clean 1-2 times a week and replace filter every month. But they do sell smaller ones too. I just like the fact that they usually don’t dig in the bowl or sit in it. With this being a winter litter you may not have that issue. But every summer litter I have had has sat in the water bowl at some point. Next picture is the natural balance if you feed kibble. Next pictures are the raw. And I defrost in a drywall mud container. In the refrig. It’s just the perfect side to lay in to fit in refrig. Last picture is the Stewart’s dehydrated. If you feed raw and you need to board or you go camping. Anything that you just can’t feed raw for a couple days then try this. I love this food. But it’s so expensive. I only use it camping or when we just can’t feed raw or I have a picky eater. 24oz bag is $43. It lasts only 3 days with my 3 big girls. So $600 a month it would cost me to feed :( but I keep a bag on hand just Incase we go camping or have to board or someone else needs to feed them. It’s my emergency back up. They love this stuff. It’s like puppy crack. You can use for picky eaters and top other food with it. 11/10/2017 6 weeks oldtoday they are 6 weeks old. I did weigh ins and 2nd dose of 6 week dewormer this morning. One more dose tomorrow. This is the dewormer they hate. It’s white and nasty. The 2,4 week one they like. The vet says it taste like banana I think. But this stuff they always spit it out at me. I always feel bad giving it to them. So I usually do it while sleeping. They go right back to sleep. I will also start to publish estimate adult weights this week. This is only a guess. We all know that it’s impossible to be exact. I’m always been close until last litter. And I was way off. But I will not be that far off on this litter. This stud was smaller then curly. But still very close the her. Last litter was a bigger weight gap. If anything I think I’ll be high on this litter not low.
11/9/2017 The go home packagesfedex and ups dropped off lots of boxes today. All the crates arrived along with the snuggle puppies, water buffalo horns, nylabone, loofa toys and seatbelts. My girls always try to steal a toy or two while I’m unboxing. Lots more packages will be arriving tomorrow. I do have a nice surprise. The totes I usually order are not in stock right now and all I have are drab colors left. So I ordered special ones for this litter. I’m excited for everyone to see them.
On another note the pups are doing good. I will weigh in tomorrow and do weekly pictures. Momma is still nursing. I hate to cut her short. The vet likes her to stop at 6 weeks. The next week will be a battle between her and I. As I try to convince her to stop. She is still regurgitating. This too should stop this week. The problem is it’s a strain on her body. I noticed her shedding today. All signs that she needs to take care of herself. All my moms are like this. They want to be super women. Each litter we have I have to convince mom that they are eating fine on their own. This week will be a battle as I block her access but still socialize the pups with the other girls. This is when I like having an extra set of hands to take mom out on a walk or special time on a car ride. My husband and son and my mom all help when they can. 11/9/2017 Crate introducedbusy morning. We did 6 week dewormer today. Then everyone got a sanitary trim. That means butts are clean. Lol. And I introduced the crate. They checked it out but opted to sleep in their bed at nap time.
11/7/2017 Ordersjust placed all the orders. Seems weird only ordering 6 of everything. I’m so use to ordering 10. But it’s done. I starting putting together folders today too. So far crates, snuggle puppies, treats, toys, water buffalo horns, nylabone, seatbelts, harness and leashes are ordered. I still need training books and food. I have the scent blankets already in place and I do need tote bags. I think we used them all last litter. Or I should say we don’t have the right colors. I always have the odd colors left over like brown. I color coordinated each pups color to the tote and folder.
11/6/2017 Pup up dateswe played for awhile tonight. They love the new tunnel. They have adjusted to their new space and are fussing less and less. They also played with jungle gym today. I will add more activities to the gym tomorrow. Right now it’s just toys. I will add noise makers next.
11/3/2017 Personalityif you know me you know I’m raw. I call it like I see it. And I don’t sugar coat. So when I describe personality I tell you what I’m seeing right now.
Pink is the dominate. She is the farthest away investigating and actually today followed me all the way to the kitchen. She plays king of the mountain on top the big girls bed. Red is a little more reserved but tries to take pink down. She would like to be the one on the bed. I just noticed her coming out of her shell today. Up until now she was much more reserved. And purple follows them both. Purple hates the whelping box and would like to be out all the time. I thought at first she may be clingy and wanted held but that’s not the case. She just wants to play or be around people. She is fine alone but I’m guessing she will be the hardest to crate train. So I will be spending extra time on her to make sure she is ok with it. I don’t want to scare anyone from selecting her because she is a snuggle bug. Loves to lay with me and play with me. But her weakness will be that crate. Last of the girls is yellow. She is always happy. Her tail never stops wagging. She is going to be tiny. I’m guessing about 15lbs. She has long legs and is tall but her head and body are so small. So I’m going to caution anyone with small kids. I worry about her being stepped on. Once she is grown would be a fun playful gal. But that first year would be hard with little kids. She is just happy doing anything. If you rub her head she gets all excited. She is more of a pleaser. Next is the boys. Blue is very much like yellow. He is happy but with an added spunk. Like he will run to the toy and then carry it around like look at me. He is playful and is usually not far behind pink if she is exploring. And last is green. He is my sleeper. Usually he doesn’t make it far from the bowl after feeding and he lays down or stays close to what ever activity we are doing. No one in this litter is shy. And no one is clingy. I can’t tell about mouthy yet as they are all teething. Blue is the only one that doesn’t have front teeth through yet. Right now they are all kind of mouthy. They chew my fingers. I may know more by next week. As far as size yellow smallest then blue then green then the rest of the girls. On to curl. Purple will be the wavy coat. And green will have a heavy wave. The rest are very curly. The darkest or one I think is going to keep color is green. Pink maybe. Purple will be the lightest. I think I’ve covered everything. As the week goes by I will post more. We will be doing lots of activities this week ere each will get a chance to show me what they are like. I will pass that info on to you. We introduced a tunnel to them yesterday and they loved it. All of them went through and played in it. |
